The problem

Advice exists. There's just a wall in front of it.

The typical firm wants a six-figure account. Hourly planning runs hundreds a session. For a working parent, that isn't a barrier — it's a wall. AGB takes it down.

Ready when you are

The system was never built for these families. We built it.

How it works · for individuals & families

A real financial planner, in your corner, free.

If you work hard and money still feels tight, you're not behind — you're in a squeeze millions of households feel. We match you with a volunteer CFP® professional who helps you figure out what to do first, then stays with you while you do it.

About 3 minutes to see if it's a fit — no account needed to start.

Who we serve

Too “okay” for aid. Priced out of advice.

You earn too much to qualify for assistance and not enough for a $2,500 financial plan. 42% of U.S. households live in that gap. You don't need a lecture — you need to know what to do first, and someone in your corner while you do it.

What you get

A dedicated adviser

The same CFP® professional, call after call — first name only, no photo, no sales pitch.

A plan you can act on

Clear next steps and a dashboard that tracks the numbers that matter.

Zero cost, zero shame

Free forever. 100% of our best-fit clients rate their adviser's empathy "excellent."

The process, start to finish

Three steps. The first takes three minutes.

Tell us your goals

1 · Tell us your goals

Why it's free — and where's the catch?

There isn't one. AGB is a nonprofit, and your adviser is a CFP® professional volunteering their time with nothing to sell you. No products, no commissions, no upsell — ever. In fact, the CFP Board asks every CFP® professional to give at least 20 hours of pro bono a year — we just make it easy.

For wealth management firms

Turn your team's expertise into measurable community impact.

A turnkey pro bono program — one of the highest-leverage ways to live your values, engage your advisers, and report real outcomes. We handle the infrastructure; your people do the work they trained for. Why firms partner

Impact your funders can see — and your team can feel.

A giving program that runs itself

No cold calls, no client acquisition, no tooling to build. We match, schedule, and measure. Your advisers just show up.

Engagement & retention

An internal champion network, a firm leaderboard, and mentorship for younger advisers — meaning built into the work.

Reporting funders trust

Firm dashboards, sessions delivered, and NPS surveys close the loop for your CSR and ESG reporting.

For individual advisers

Do the work you love. We handle the rest.

You became a planner to help people — not to prospect. Volunteer entirely on your own schedule — as often or as little as you like — and we remove every obstacle: no finding clients, no building tools, no admin. Just a prepared brief and a great conversation. The CFP Board encourages every CFP® professional to give at least 20 hours of pro bono a year — we make hitting that effortless.

Why advisers love it

Meet whenever you want

You set your own schedule and how long each meeting runs — volunteer as often or as little as you like. Clients pick from your real open times.

Zero friction

Get the client brief through your Adviser Interface — goals, situation, and what they need. No cold calls, no sales.

Continuity that matters

The same client stays with you over time, so you see the plan actually work — and so do they.

How volunteering works for you

Three steps, then a great conversation.

1 · Set your availability

Choose your windows and how long a first meeting runs. You're never double-booked or surprised.

2 · Get a prepared brief

Before each call, your Adviser Interface hands you the client's goals and situation — no cold start.

3 · Have the conversation

Do what you trained for. The platform tracks follow-through and keeps your client moving between calls.

Give your expertise. Change a family's trajectory.

For libraries, nonprofits & community partners

The pilot

What Bay Forward is

AGB’s first place-based pilot — a hub-and-spoke model that embeds free, one-on-one CFP® financial planning into trusted community institutions across the Bay Area. It launches in 2026 and becomes the national playbook for every city that follows.

Always free

Every 1:1 session is free — no application, no minimum, no waitlist.

Virtual + on-site

Advisers meet clients where they are — at a partner location or by phone.

Ongoing relationships

Clients come back for as many sessions as they want.

Behaviorally designed

Built with the Common Cents Lab at Duke to move people from knowing to doing.

Two volunteer tracks

Track A for CFP® holders; Track B for ops and marketing staff at partner organizations.

$0 vs. $100K

The typical wealth firm requires a six-figure minimum. AGB charges nothing.

Who we serve

Working families the system leaves out.

Families across the Bay Area who earn above the poverty line but below the threshold of financial security — and communities of color hit hardest by the wealth gap.

About 42% of U.S. households — some 55 million families — can’t consistently afford the basics. The Bay Area’s cost of living makes that gap even sharper. The typical wealth-management firm requires a $100K minimum to get help. AGB charges $0.

Where we operate

Rooted in trusted community anchors.

Bay Forward embeds planning inside the institutions Bay Area families already know and trust.

San Francisco Public Library

Active referral partnership, with a co-referral channel through the SF Office of Financial Empowerment — reaching families across San Francisco.

Oakland Public Library

A senior librarian on the AGB board bridges us to East Bay communities and connections across Oakland.

Alameda County Library

Extending the hub-and-spoke network deeper into the East Bay.

Economic Justice Center

A launch partner connecting AGB to families working toward economic mobility.

BrightBee — San Jose

A community org serving South Bay families, including classified staff at local school sites.

The Health Trust — San Jose

A South Bay foundation partner supporting the Silicon Valley expansion.

Local adviser base: roughly 25 CFP® professionals active or committed across the Bay Area — from firms including Corient, Wealthspire, Focus Partners, Altair, and independent practices. Year-one goal: 500 clients served, about $500,000 in donated financial planning.

Get involved

Four ways to move Bay Forward.

Volunteer as an adviser

Two tracks, both matter. Track A: CFP® professionals take 1:1 sessions pro bono. Track B: colleagues in ops, marketing, or client service coordinate scheduling and cohort logistics — no CFP required. AGB handles the rest.

Bring Bay Forward to your community

Run a library, CDFI, community org, or social-service program serving Bay Area families? We’re expanding our network and integrate cleanly — we don’t compete with your existing financial-wellbeing efforts.

Put your firm’s advisers to work

Bay Area wealth-management firms get a turnkey pro bono program plus impact dashboards that solve their reporting challenges — while their advisers change local lives.

Fund the Bay Area buildout

Bay Forward is cultivating Bay Area foundations and donors focused on economic mobility. An introduction to an aligned program officer at this early stage is meaningful — and we handle the follow-through.

The scale path

Built in the Bay Area. Deployed everywhere.

The playbook we build here deploys to every city that follows — each metro drawing on Bay Forward’s community-anchor model and impact data, toward a north star of 100,000 people a year.

Program · Building the profession

The Mentorship Program: growing the next generation of planners.

AGB pairs aspiring planners from backgrounds underrepresented in financial planning — students, career-changers, and CFP® candidates — with experienced professionals who guide them into the field. It builds a more representative pipeline of planners, and deepens the volunteer community that powers our pro bono work.

Mentorship — pairing new planners with experienced pros

Why it matters

Change who becomes a planner.

The financial-planning profession doesn’t yet reflect the families it serves — too few planners come from the communities hit hardest by the wealth gap.

Mentorship is how we change that: by opening a clear, supported path into the profession for people who’ve never seen it as an option. Many mentees go on to volunteer with AGB — so every planner we help train helps more families get served.

The funding story

Launched with SchwabFounding support from the Charles Schwab Foundation got the program off the ground.
Ready to growThat launch funding is now fully deployed — renewed support would expand who we reach.
Two-sided impactMentees gain a career path; the pro bono network gains new advisers.
No cost to menteesGuidance, exam support, and connections — free.

How it works

Matched, guided, and welcomed into the field.

1 · Matched one-to-one

Each mentee is paired with an experienced CFP® professional who fits their goals and background.

2 · Structured guidance

Regular sessions over the program term — exam preparation, real-world skills, and career navigation.

3 · A path to practice

Mentees build the confidence and connections to enter the profession — and many join AGB’s pro bono community.

4 · We handle logistics

Matching, scheduling, and structure are all run by AGB, so mentors and mentees can focus on the relationship.

For mentors

Give the leg up you wish you’d had.

Experienced CFP® professionals shape the future of the profession — and often say mentoring is the most rewarding volunteering they do. Flexible, on your own schedule.

For mentees

A real path into financial planning.

Aspiring planners from communities underrepresented in the profession get one-on-one guidance from someone who’s done it — at no cost, from anywhere.

Help build a profession that looks like the families it serves.

Our story

Where we come from — and why it matters.

AGB began with a hard truth: education alone doesn’t change financial behavior. Working with Prof. Dan Ariely and the Common Cents Lab at Duke, our founder helped build an online intervention grounded in behavioral economics — one that moves people from knowing what to do to actually doing it. A conversation with Fred Barstein of The Retirement Advisor University named the other half of the equation: “Advisers want to give back. There’s just no easy way to do it.” AGB became the vehicle to close that gap — matching willing advisers with the working families who need them most.

What turned that idea into an organization is our board. From the very beginning, they have lent their expertise, networks, and credibility to the mission — steering AGB with a shared conviction that high-quality financial advice shouldn’t be a privilege reserved for the wealthy. Their generosity and guidance are a big part of why the model works.

And at the heart of it all are the advisers. A dedicated community of CFP® professionals give their time pro bono — many of them volunteering year after year — sitting down with families they’ll never bill and helping them turn worry into a plan. AGB exists because they keep showing up.

“Just because you know the right thing to do doesn't mean you actually do it. We built a system to bridge that gap.”
